Read Together Diamond Bar

This coming October the Friends of the Diamond Bar Library will sponsor Read Together Diamond Bar in partnership with the Diamond Bar Library and the Friends of the Pomona Library's BIG READ. The Pomona Friends' group has received a $17,050 NEA grant for their BIG READ. They are one of only 75 communities nationwide to receive this grant for 2010/2011.

There will be many activities based around the classic Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury during October at both the Pomona and Diamond Bar libraries. Bradbury's classic bestseller is the story of firemen who are paid to set books ablaze. Guy Montag is a fireman who burns books in a futuristic American city. In Montag's world, firemen start fires rather than putting them out. The people in this society do not read books, enjoy nature, spend time by themselves, think independently, or have meaningful conversations. Instead, they drive very fast, watch excessive amounts of television on wall-size sets, and listen to the radio on "Seashell Radio" sets attached to their ears.

The temperature of fahrenheit 451 is thought to be the degree when paper will burn. We encourage everyone to read this very interesting book and join in as many events as possible. A calendar will soon be available with planned events.
